CLOI’s Journey

In 1986, the Stratford Foundation Inc. was formed with the goal of becoming a valuable educational resource for the community. After establishing the Commonwealth Learning Center in 1988 and the Professional Training Institute in 1992, Stratford came into the 21st century in 2010 when CLOI, the Commonwealth Learning Online Institute, was formed.

Since our early days we have increased our offerings and university partners to meet the needs of educators nationwide. Today our program includes both self-paced and facilitated courses, and our credit offering institutions have expanded to include Gordon College, Westfield State University, and MidAmerica Nazarene University.

After nearly a decade, our commitment to being a valuable professional development resource for the community is stronger than ever, and we work towards this everyday by providing exceptional learning for educators across the country.

The Differences Between Self-Paced Vs. Facilitated Courses for Teachers in Atlanta

The facilitated courses deliver comprehensive workshop training in a particular topic over a 7 week time period. An experienced, facilitator leads the students through each week in turn, setting objectives to fulfill as each lesson is completed. Such courses take roughly fifty to seventy hours to complete and will earn you 36 PDPs or 3 graduate credits. The facilitated courses occur 5 times per year: Jan, Mar, May, July and Sept. Self-paced internet courses provide more freedom since you finish them at your own pace. An experienced facilitator is always there to answer your questions via Email and will also provide marking should you be taking the training course for credits. Our self-paced web based courses commonly take somewhere between 8 and 15 hours to accomplish and earn participants 1/2 to one credit.

What Course Topics Are Offered to Atlanta Educators?

Some of the current online reading courses include Close Reading, Building Vocabulary, Instructing Spelling and Phonetics and Integrating Five Core Reading Skills. Earn Credits or Atlanta Professional Development Points

Each individual facilitated format course earns you 36 PDPs or three graduate credits which you can use for the development of your teaching career. The self-paced formats earn you a half or one credit. Further courses worth two grad credits are in development. Credits are offered by Westfield State University, MidAmerica Nazarene University and Gordon College; you will receive grad credit from the college that you pick. PDP’s are only offered from Westfield State University.
