CLOI’s Journey

In 1986, the Stratford Foundation Inc. was formed with the goal of becoming a valuable educational resource for the community. After establishing the Commonwealth Learning Center in 1988 and the Professional Training Institute in 1992, Stratford came into the 21st century in 2010 when CLOI, the Commonwealth Learning Online Institute, was formed.

Since our early days we have increased our offerings and university partners to meet the needs of educators nationwide. Today our program includes both self-paced and facilitated courses, and our credit offering institutions have expanded to include Gordon College, Westfield State University, and MidAmerica Nazarene University.

After nearly a decade, our commitment to being a valuable professional development resource for the community is stronger than ever, and we work towards this everyday by providing exceptional learning for educators across the country.

CLOI (Commonwealth Learning Online Institute) of New Hampshire Improves Your Teaching Abilities

How Does CLOI (Commonwealth Learning Online Institute) Support Teachers in New Hampshire?

As you will already be aware, life as a teacher is very demanding. When you are in the classroom, developing lessons and rating assignments, you don’t have a lot of free time to commit to your development. Although, there are numerous teaching practices being created that can help your students to do better in things like writing and reading, if you only had a bit more time. This is why CLOI (Commonwealth Learning Online Institute) was launched. As a not-for-profit, independent professional development organization, we give New Hampshire teachers online courses to improve reading and writing skills which you can easily study at your leisure. Our courses address a number of grades and will help to prepare students for further education.

CLOI Course Benefits

Even though we also provide on-site development courses, our internet learning courses can help you further your level of training when it’s convenient for you. The courses are available around the clock and may be accessed even after you’ve completed a training. We offer both self-paced and facilitated classes in writing and reading skills. The facilitated courses allow you to earn professional development points (PDPs) or graduate credits to help with your future training.

It took two years of research and development along with an educational organization vetted in the industry to develop our first internet courses. They have been created to meet up with the Common Core State Standards of learning goals. In addition they present valuable teaching examples that you can bring into the classroom to help pupils learn reading and writing in engaging unique ways. Each individual program follows a logical structure so that the training lessons expand upon each other.

Why Choose CLOI?

CLOI is the most recently founded branch of Stratford Foundation Inc., a nonprofit making educational organization established in 1986 with the intention of becoming an educational resource for the New Hampshire community. They then set about offering on-site education for students, in addition to classes for educators and tutors so they could further their professional development. When the internet gave the chance for busy educators with little time to spare to take online courses at their leisure, Commonwealth Learning Online Institute was created to fulfill this need for literacy teachers.

We brought out our very first six facilitated public courses in 2012 after we arranged a good deal with Gordon College to offer graduate credit for our customers. Today we include Westfield State University and MidAmerica Nazarene University in our institutions offering graduate credit.

All of our online courses are accessible by any tablet, PC, laptop, or any other mobile device. New Hampshire district school curriculum directors, principals, superintendents and administrators have been benefitting from our online offerings. Our internet courses can be taken in groups or individually and it doesn’t matter where you’re at in your teacher professional development, you will find that our online solutions broaden your overall knowledge and teaching skills.

More About Commonwealth Learning Online Institute Courses for New Hampshire Teachers

Our present course catalog concentrates on the development of reading skills; special education and writing courses are under development. The courses are intended to benefit teachers of all grades from the foundational level up through the 12th grade. They are formulated to help prepare scholars for college and further education.

The Differences Between Facilitated Vs. Self Paced Courses for Educators in New Hampshire

Self-paced internet courses can be progressed according to your timetable. There’s no specified dates for doing each lesson; you can study them when it suits you. A facilitator is available to address any questions or problems that may come up. They will also give you a grade mark should you be doing the course for graduate credits. Self-paced online courses take anywhere between 8 and 15 hrs to complete and students earn a half to one PDP credit. They’re available to take all year round. The online facilitated training courses, in contrast, give more structure. Consider them to be in-depth workshop training in a selected area over a seven week period. A trained, facilitator leads the course and establishes objectives and expectations which students must fulfill weekly. These facilitated courses will take about 50 to70 hours to finish and will earn you 3 graduate credits or 36 PDPs. They’re offered in January, March, May, July, and September.

Course Topics in Reading

Our current online reading instruction courses focus on Instructing Phonics and Spelling, Integrating Five Core Reading Skills, Close Reading and Vocabulary Building. They are constructed to help you expose students to fresh techniques for grasping the link between the sound of the words when spoken with words on a page, and how to develop into swifter readers. All of our online classes show numerous educational examples that you can apply to your school.

Earn Continuing Education Credits For Your Professional Development

Thanks to our professional partnerships with Gordon College, Westfield State University and MidAmerica Nazarene University, each Commonwealth Learning Online Institute course earns you PDPs or grad credits which you can use for the development of your career. Each facilitated course earns you 36 PDPs or 3 graduate credits while the self-paced format earns 1/2 or one grad credit. Courses for 2 grad credits are being developed.
