CLOI’s Journey

In 1986, the Stratford Foundation Inc. was formed with the goal of becoming a valuable educational resource for the community. After establishing the Commonwealth Learning Center in 1988 and the Professional Training Institute in 1992, Stratford came into the 21st century in 2010 when CLOI, the Commonwealth Learning Online Institute, was formed.

Since our early days we have increased our offerings and university partners to meet the needs of educators nationwide. Today our program includes both self-paced and facilitated courses, and our credit offering institutions have expanded to include Gordon College, Westfield State University, and MidAmerica Nazarene University.

After nearly a decade, our commitment to being a valuable professional development resource for the community is stronger than ever, and we work towards this everyday by providing exceptional learning for educators across the country.

Our educational web based courses were also designed to meet the Common Core State Standards of learning goals.

Why Pick CLOI?

Commonwealth Learning Online Institute was founded in 2010 when it became clear that busy educators needed a much more practical option for accessing the courses that we at that time taught on-site. We’re a branch of the Stratford Foundation Inc. which was established in 1986 to help students of every age group defeat their learning struggles, especially in reading. We partnered with an educational organization that assisted us in forming our 6 core reading facilitated courses.

We released the very first six facilitated public courses in 2012 after we negotiated a lucrative deal with Gordon College to provide our customers with graduate credits. Currently we are very pleased to also include Westfield State University and MidAmerica Nazarene University in our list of graduate credit offering universities.

All our web based courses are easily accessible by the use of laptop, PC, tablet, or any other mobile device. Binghamton school administrators, curriculum directors, principals and superintendents have benefitted from our online offerings. These web based courses can be used individually or in groups and it does not matter where you are in your teaching journey, you’ll find our online solutions enhance your knowledge and teaching skills.

More Information On Online Commonwealth Learning Online Institute Courses

Currently we deliver online reading courses in facilitated and self-taught formats. Online writing and special education courses are being designed. Our courses help educators of all grades from foundational right up to 12th grade. The learning processes learnt in each course should successfully prepare your students for college and life.

Self-Paced Vs. Facilitated Courses

The facilitated format courses provide in-depth workshop training in a particular topic over a 7 week period. A trained, masters-level facilitator directs the course participants through each week, establishing objectives to satisfy as each lesson is concluded. These courses will take approximately 50 to 70 hours to finish and earn 36 PDPs or 3 graduate credits. Our facilitated courses take place five times yearly: January, March, May, July, and September. Self-paced courses provide much more flexibility because you do them in your own time. A trained facilitator is available to resolve any questions via e mail and also does marking if you’re taking the program for graduate credit. Our self-paced online courses should take between 8 and 15 hrs to do and earn participants 1/2 to one credit.

Course Topics

Our current online reading instruction courses focus on Close Reading, Instructing Phonics and Spelling, Vocabulary Building and Integrating 5 Main Reading Skills. They are built so that you can introduce your students to new techniques for understanding the correlation between written words on a page and the sound of the spoken words, and also how to develop into faster readers. All our online lessons show numerous educational ideas that you’re able to apply to your classroom.

Earn Continuing Education Credits For Your Professional Development

One of the main aims of CLOI is to provide educators with credits or points which they can use towards earning extra qualifications. Every facilitated format study course will earn you three graduate credits or 36 PDPs that can be used towards further professional education, whilst the self paced training courses earn 1/2 or one grad credit. Courses that are worth two graduate credits are in the pipeline. Grad credit is given by MidAmerica Nazarene University, Westfield State University and Gordon College; you’ll receive graduate credit from the college of your liking. PDPs are offered through Westfield State University.
