CLOI’s Journey

In 1986, the Stratford Foundation Inc. was formed with the goal of becoming a valuable educational resource for the community. After establishing the Commonwealth Learning Center in 1988 and the Professional Training Institute in 1992, Stratford came into the 21st century in 2010 when CLOI, the Commonwealth Learning Online Institute, was formed.

Since our early days we have increased our offerings and university partners to meet the needs of educators nationwide. Today our program includes both self-paced and facilitated courses, and our credit offering institutions have expanded to include Gordon College, Westfield State University, and MidAmerica Nazarene University.

After nearly a decade, our commitment to being a valuable professional development resource for the community is stronger than ever, and we work towards this everyday by providing exceptional learning for educators across the country.

More About Commonwealth Learning Online Institute Courses for Vermont Teachers

We presently provide reading courses in facilitated and self-taught set-ups. Online courses for writing and special education are being developed. Our courses help educators of all grades from foundational level right up to the 12th grade. The methods for learning learned in each of the online courses will successfully ready your pupils for college and beyond.

Differences Between Facilitated Vs. Self Paced Courses for Educators in Vermont

CLOI offers two course options depending upon how much structure and instruction you are seeking. Self-paced online courses offer much more flexibility because you do them as time allows. It isn’t necessary to finish any lesson by a certain date before progressing to the next. Nevertheless, a trained facilitator is always there to e mail with your questions or concerns. Such courses don’t take so long, usually needing anywhere between 8 and fifteen hours to finish. Our facilitated courses deliver more comprehensive training and will take roughly 7 weeks of study to complete. Contrary to the self-paced option, you are asked to complete a lesson by a certain date. A seasoned, masters-level instructor leads the class through each week and sets objectives that participants need to attain before progressing to the next lesson. Such courses should take somewhere between fifty and seventy hours to finish. The facilitated courses are available 5 times yearly between Jan and Sept.

Online Course Topics in Reading

Our current online reading instruction courses focus on Integrating 5 Main Reading Skills, Close Reading, Building Vocabulary and Instructing Phonics and Spelling. Vermont Continuing Education Credits You Can Generate

Each facilitated study course earns you 36 PDPs or 3 graduate credits whilst self paced courses earn a half or one grad credit. Further courses for two credits are being developed.
