CLOI’s Journey

In 1986, the Stratford Foundation Inc. was formed with the goal of becoming a valuable educational resource for the community. After establishing the Commonwealth Learning Center in 1988 and the Professional Training Institute in 1992, Stratford came into the 21st century in 2010 when CLOI, the Commonwealth Learning Online Institute, was formed.

Since our early days we have increased our offerings and university partners to meet the needs of educators nationwide. Today our program includes both self-paced and facilitated courses, and our credit offering institutions have expanded to include Gordon College, Westfield State University, and MidAmerica Nazarene University.

After nearly a decade, our commitment to being a valuable professional development resource for the community is stronger than ever, and we work towards this everyday by providing exceptional learning for educators across the country.

More Information On CLOI Courses for South Carolina Teachers

Presently we offer reading courses in self-taught and facilitated formats. Online courses for special education and writing are being developed. The training aids teachers of all levels from foundational level right up to the 12th grade. The methods for learning studied in each of the online courses will prepare your students for college and further education.

Your Choice: Facilitated Vs. Self Paced Courses

Our facilitated courses provide thorough workshop training in a specific topic over a period of seven weeks. An experienced, facilitator directs the students through it week by week, setting targets to fulfill as each lesson is accomplished. Our online courses will take somewhere around 50 to 70 hours to do and will earn you 3 graduate credits or 36 PDPs. Our facilitated format courses are offered 5 times per year: January, March, May, July, and September. Our self-paced training courses offer increased flexibility as you do them as time allows. A professional facilitator is on hand to resolve any questions by Email and will also provide grading if you’re doing the program for credits. The self-paced courses should take between 8 and 15 hours to complete and earn participants 1/2 to one credit.

Our current online reading instruction courses focus on Integrating 5 Main Reading Skills, Close Reading, Instructing Spelling and Phonetics and Vocabulary Building. South Carolina Continuing Education Credits You Can Earn

Due to our professional development partnerships with Gordon College, Westfield State University and MidAmerica Nazarene University, each Commonwealth Learning Online Institute training course earns you PDPs or grad credits that you can use for the development of your teaching career. Every facilitated study course will earn you three graduate credits or 36 PDPs whilst self paced courses earn 1/2 or one credit. Further courses earning two credits are currently in the pipeline.
