What is CLOI (Commonwealth Learning Online Institute) and How Does It Assist Pennsylvania Teachers?

As you already know, life as a teacher can be a demanding vocation. When you are in a classroom environment, marking assignments, and creating lessons, there isn’t much time to commit to your development. But, there are several teaching practices being created that could help students to do better in reading and writing, if only you had some extra time. That’s why CLOI was launched. As an independent non-profit development organization, we offer Pennsylvania teachers online courses to develop reading and writing techniques which you can easily study when you have the time. These online courses address several grades and will help to prepare students for further education.

Commonwealth Learning Online Institute Course Benefits

Commonwealth Learning Online Institute gives you 2 kinds of web based courses, self-paced and facilitated, giving you greater convenience to choose the standard of learning that’s perfect for you. You are able to take as long as you wish proceeding through our self-paced classes, which don’t have deadlines but make a professional facilitator available to answer your questions. The facilitated courses are more in-depth and involve finishing lessons week by week under the close guidance of a specialist instructor. Regardless of which sort of course you pick out, you’ll be given lifetime access enabling you to take another look at them any time you wish.

CLOI courses were designed so that they follow a rational framework with lessons that expand on one another. They also help you learn about helpful teaching techniques that you can then use in your classroom to assist teens and children learn in more enjoyable ways. Our exceptional web based courses are also formulated to satisfy the Common Core State Standards Initiative.

Why Opt for CLOI?

CLOI was set up in 2010 when it became obvious that overstretched teachers needed a much more easy option for getting access to the training courses that we also teach on-site. We are proud to be part of the Stratford Foundation Inc. that was established in 1986 to help out students spanning various ages defeat their learning struggles, particularly reading and writing. We partnered with an educational institution who assisted us in forming our core reading facilitated courses.

It was then that we looked for university partners to offer graduate credit for our customers. The first to come on board was Gordon College, and in 2012 our initial six courses became available. Presently the institutions offering graduate credit have expanded somewhat to include MidAmerica Nazarene University and Westfield State University.

Our web based courses are conveniently accessible by the use of computer or mobile gadget such as laptops and tablets. Whether you’re a Pennsylvania school principal, administrator, curriculum director or superintendent, you can easily study a CLOI course individually or in a group depending on the requirements of your school. No matter how much experience you have teaching, our courses can enhance your teaching techniques and personal development.

More Information On Online CLOI Courses

Currently we offer reading courses in both self-paced and facilitated set-ups. Online courses for special education and writing are being developed. Our courses help educators of all levels from foundational up to the 12th grade. The learning solutions learned in each online course should better prepare your pupils for college and way beyond.

Differences Between Facilitated Vs. Self Paced Courses for Teachers in Pennsylvania

CLOI offers two course options depending upon the level of instruction and structure you need. The self-paced training courses offer more convenience because you progress whenever you have the time. It is not necessary to finish any lesson by a particular date before moving onto the next. However, a trained facilitator is always on hand to e-mail with any questions or concerns. Such training courses don’t take so long, typically needing somewhere between eight and 15 hours of study to accomplish. The facilitated internet courses provide more detailed training and will take seven weeks of study to complete. Unlike the self-paced option, you are asked to complete a lesson by a certain date. A seasoned, instructor directs you through the training and sets objectives that students must attain before continuing. Our online courses should take somewhere around 50 to 70 hours to finish. Facilitated courses occur 5 times throughout the year between Jan and Sept.

Online Course Topics in Reading

Among our current online courses are Instructing Spelling and Phonetics, Integrating Five Key Reading Skills, Close Reading and Building Vocabulary. They’ll tell you how to help students grasp the link between the sound of the words when spoken with written words on a page, expand their vocabulary, increase fluency, and much more. Our series of study courses were put together by educational specialists for teachers and tutors. They include many suggestions that you can incorporate in your classroom curriculum.

Earn Continuing Education Credits For Your Professional Development

Each facilitated format course earns you 36 PDPs or 3 graduate credits that can be used towards the advancement of your professional career. Our self-paced courses earn you 1/2 or one grad credit. New courses worth two grad credits are currently being developed. Graduate credit is granted by Westfield State University, Gordon College and MidAmerica Nazarene University; you’ll get credits from the college of your choice. PDP’s can be obtained through Westfield State University.

Teacher Testimonial

This course has helped me, a middle-level educator, raise my awareness toward phonics instruction and assessment. Comprehension has always been high on my radar and I have many books on this. Only a few, even mention phonics as a target for assessment and analysis.
