After establishing the Commonwealth Learning Center in 1988 and the Professional Training Institute in 1992, Stratford came into the 21st century in 2010 when CLOI, the Commonwealth Learning Online Institute, was formed.

Since our early days we have increased our offerings and university partners to meet the needs of educators nationwide. Today our program includes both self-paced and facilitated courses, and our credit offering institutions have expanded to include Gordon College, Westfield State University, and MidAmerica Nazarene University.

Commonwealth Learning Online Institute (CLOI) of Kansas Enhances Your Teaching Capabilities

What is CLOI (Commonwealth Learning Online Institute) and How Do We Help Kansas Teachers?

As you will already recognize, life as a teacher is a demanding profession. When you’re in the classroom, creating lessons and grading assignments, there isn’t a lot of time to devote to your own professional development. Yet, there are numerous teaching techniques being developed which could help your students perform better in things like reading and writing, if you only had some extra time. This is why CLOI was started. As a non-profit, development organization, we give Kansas teachers courses online for improving writing and reading skills which you can easily study when you have the time. The online courses cover many grades and should help prepare students for further education and careers.

Commonwealth Learning Online Institute Course Features

CLOI delivers 2 sorts of courses online, self-paced and facilitated, giving you greater freedom and to choose the amount of training that is ideal for you. You’ll be able to take as long as you like progressing through our self-paced classes, which do not have deadlines but make a professional tutor available to respond to your questions. The facilitated courses are more in-depth and call for accomplishing weekly lessons with the support of an tutor. Regardless of which kind of course you pick out, you will be given lifetime access so you can return to them whenever you like.

CLOI courses have been developed in order that they adhere to a logical framework with lessons that expand upon one another. They also help you to learn about functional teaching techniques which you can then apply to the classroom to help children and teenagers learn in more appealing ways. Our series of internet courses are also formulated to meet the Common Core State Standards.

The History of Commonwealth Learning Online Institute Kansas

Commonwealth Learning Online Institute is the most recently founded part of the Stratford Foundation Inc., a nonprofit educational enterprise formed in 1986 to become an educational learning resource for the Kansas community. The Stratford Foundation then began delivering on-site education for students, as well as classes for tutors and educators so they were able to enhance their development as professionals. As soon as the internet gave the chance for busy teachers pressed for time to accomplish training courses in comfort at home, CLOI was founded to fulfill this need.

We brought out the initial 6 facilitated public courses in 2012 after we arranged a good deal with Gordon College to offer graduate credit for our customers. Presently we include Westfield State University and MidAmerica Nazarene University in the list of institutions offering graduate credits.

All our online courses are readily accessible by using tablet, laptop, desktop PC, or other mobile device. Kansas school curriculum directors, administrators, principals and superintendents have found value in our online solutions. Our training courses can be utilized individually or in groups and it doesn’t matter where you are in your professional development, you’ll find our online solutions widen your overall knowledge and teaching skills.

More About Online Commonwealth Learning Online Institute Courses

Our present online course selection is focused on the development of reading skills; writing and special education courses are being created. They are created to benefit educators of all grade levels from the foundational level up through the 12th grade. They are designed to help to prepare scholars for college and further education.

Your Decision: Facilitated Vs. Self Paced Courses

Our self-paced online courses may be done based on your routine. There are no specified dates for doing each lesson; you are able to do them when it’s right for you. A trained facilitator is available to resolve any questions or concerns that may come up. They will also give you a grade mark if you’re taking the training for credits. Our self-paced training courses will need anywhere between 8 and 15 hrs to complete and earn participants a half to one PDP credit. They’re there to study any time of the year. The online facilitated training courses, conversely, provide a bit more structure. Think of them as complete training in a chosen subject over a seven week time period. An experienced, masters-level facilitator directs the course and establishes goals and expectations which students must meet weekly. Our training courses will take between 50 and 70 hours to do and will earn you 36 PDPs or three graduate credits. They’re offered in January, March, May, July, and September.

Online Course Topics in Reading

Among the current online courses are Vocabulary Building, Integrating Five Core Reading Skills, Instructing Phonics and Spelling and Close Reading. They’re going to illustrate how you can help students to understand the link between the sound of spoken words with written words on a page, expand their vocabulary, increase fluency, and more. These study courses were designed by education administrators especially for teachers in the classroom. They include lots of examples that you can integrate into your classroom curriculum.

Kansas Continuing Education Credits You Can Generate

Every facilitated course earns you three graduate credits or 36 PDPs which you can use towards the development of your teaching career. Our self paced courses earn 1/2 or one grad credit. New courses worth 2 graduate credits are presently in development. Graduate credit is provided by Gordon College, MidAmerica Nazarene University and Westfield State University; you’ll get credits from whatever college you select. PDP’s are only available through Westfield State University.

Teacher Testimonial

I absolutely loved the course and feel that I learned a lot. I would definitely recommend this course to other teachers-I already have! For me, it was a great way to learn more about the common core and reflect on changes in teaching that have happened since I have been out of the classroom.
