The History of Commonwealth Learning Online Institute Idaho

Commonwealth Learning Online Institute is the newest division of Stratford Foundation Inc., a nonprofit educational enterprise established in 1986 with the intention of becoming an academic resource for the community of Idaho. The Stratford Foundation then set about providing on-site education for students, in addition to training courses for educators and tutors so that they could advance their development as professionals. Once the internet made it feasible for educators with little time to spare to do online courses in comfort at home, Commonwealth Learning Online Institute was formed to fill this need.

It was then that we wanted university partners to offer graduate credits that could be used by clients. Gordon College was the first one to come on board, and our very first 6 courses became available in 2012. Today our universities offering graduate credits have broadened somewhat to include the likes of Westfield State University and MidAmerica Nazarene University.

All of our courses are readily available by using laptop, tablet, desktop, or other mobile device. Idaho school administrators, curriculum directors, principals and superintendents have been blown away by our online offerings. Our internet courses can be studied individually or in groups and no matter where you stand in your teacher professional development, you’ll find that our online solutions broaden your teaching skills and knowledge.

More About Online CLOI Courses

Our present course catalog concentrates on reading development; special education and writing courses are under development. They are designed to benefit tutors of all levels from the foundational level right up to the 12th grade. They are formulated to help prepare your pupils for college and life.

Self-Paced Vs. Facilitated Online Courses

Our facilitated courses deliver comprehensive training in a given topic area over a time frame of seven weeks. A trained, masters-level facilitator takes the course participants through each week, setting expectations to meet on the completion of each lesson. These courses should take somewhere between 50 and 70 hours to accomplish and will earn you three graduate credits or 36 PDPs. The facilitated format courses are available 5 times each year: Jan, Mar, May, July and Sept. The self-paced training courses offer far more freedom as you accomplish them in your own time. A facilitator is always on hand to answer the questions you have by Email and also does marking should you be taking the training course for graduate credit. Our self-paced courses should take somewhere between 8 and 15 hrs to finish and participants earn a half to one credit.

Online Course Topics

Among the current online courses are Close Reading, Vocabulary Building, Instructing Phonics and Spelling and Integrating Five Key Reading Skills. They are going to tell you how you can help students to understand the association between the sound of spoken words with written words on a page, expand their vocabulary, improve fluency, and even more than this. These study courses were formulated by educational executives especially for teachers on the front line. They feature a lot of techniques which you’re able to integrate in your classroom curriculum.

Earn Graduate Credits or Idaho Professional Development Points

On account of our development partnerships with Gordon College, MidAmerica Nazarene University and Westfield State University, each Commonwealth Learning Online Institute training course will earn you PDPs or grad credits which you can use for your teaching development. Each individual facilitated format study course will earn you three graduate credits or 36 PDPs while the self-paced format earns 1/2 or one graduate credit. Courses earning 2 credits are forthcoming.
