CLOI’s Journey

In 1986, the Stratford Foundation Inc. was formed with the goal of becoming a valuable educational resource for the community. After establishing the Commonwealth Learning Center in 1988 and the Professional Training Institute in 1992, Stratford came into the 21st century in 2010 when CLOI, the Commonwealth Learning Online Institute, was formed.

Since our early days we have increased our offerings and university partners to meet the needs of educators nationwide. Today our program includes both self-paced and facilitated courses, and our credit offering institutions have expanded to include Gordon College, Westfield State University, and MidAmerica Nazarene University.

After nearly a decade, our commitment to being a valuable professional development resource for the community is stronger than ever, and we work towards this everyday by providing exceptional learning for educators across the country.

The History of CLOI Worcester, MA

Commonwealth Learning Online Institute is associated with the Stratford Foundation Inc. which was established in 1986 to assist students of all ages triumph over learning dilemmas, and educators discover how to do their jobs more efficiently. Commonwealth Learning Online Institute was actually founded in 2010 to offer practical professional development to educators and tutors. The development of our courses began when we partnered up with with a vetted educational enterprise. This business helped us set up our first six core facilitated reading courses.

Next was to partner with some universities to help offer graduate credits for our students. The very first courses (six in all) went public in 2012. At present, the institutions offering graduate credits include MidAmerica Nazarene University, Westfield State University and Gordon College.

More Information On Online CLOI Courses

Currently we provide online reading courses both in facilitated and self-paced formats. Online special education and writing courses are under development. Our training helps tutors of all levels from foundational up to the 12th grade. The learning methods learnt in each course will better ready your scholars for college and life.

Your Choice: Self-Paced Vs. Facilitated Courses

CLOI offers two online course options depending on the level of instruction and structure you need. Self-paced internet courses provide much more freedom since you do them as time allows. You’re not required to complete any lesson before a particular date before progressing to the next. However, a trained facilitator is on hand to e mail with any questions or concerns. Such study courses are moreover shorter, commonly needing between 8 and 15 hrs to finish. Facilitated courses convey more detailed training and will take roughly 7 weeks to accomplish. In contrast to the self-paced courses, you will be asked to complete each lesson by a certain date. A specialist, instructor/facilitator leads you through each week and sets goals that participants must achieve before continuing. These courses take around 50 to 70 hours to finish. Our facilitated format courses occur five times throughout the year from Jan to Sept.

Course Topics in Reading

Our current online reading instruction courses focus on Close Reading, Integrating Five Key Reading Skills, Instructing Phonics and Spelling and Building Vocabulary. Earn Credits or Worcester, MA Professional Development Points

On account of our development partnerships with Westfield State University, Gordon College and MidAmerica Nazarene University, each Commonwealth Learning Online Institute course earns you graduate credits or PDPs which you can use for the development of your professional career. Each individual facilitated course will earn you 36 PDPs or 3 graduate credits while our self paced courses earn 1/2 or one grad credit. Further courses earning 2 credits are in the pipeline.
