In 1986, the Stratford Foundation Inc. was formed with the goal of becoming a valuable educational resource for the community. After establishing the Commonwealth Learning Center in 1988 and the Professional Training Institute in 1992, Stratford came into the 21st century in 2010 when CLOI, the Commonwealth Learning Online Institute, was formed.
Since our early days we have increased our offerings and university partners to meet the needs of educators nationwide. Today our program includes both self-paced and facilitated courses, and our credit offering institutions have expanded to include Gordon College, Westfield State University, and MidAmerica Nazarene University.
After nearly a decade, our commitment to being a valuable professional development resource for the community is stronger than ever, and we work towards this everyday by providing exceptional learning for educators across the country.

Self-Paced Vs. Facilitated Online Courses
The self-paced training courses can be done based on your timetable. There aren’t any specified dates for completing each lesson; you can do them when you’ve got the time. An experienced facilitator is always on hand to answer any questions or issues that may come up. They’ll also give you a grading mark if you’re doing the program for graduate credits. Our self-paced online courses take between 8 and fifteen hours to do and earn students 1/2 to one PDP credit. These are there to study at any time. Our online facilitated courses, on the other hand, offer a more structured approach. Think of them as comprehensive training in a specific area over a 7 week time frame. A seasoned, masters-level facilitator leads the course and sets expectations and goals which participants should fulfill weekly. Our facilitated courses should take between fifty and seventy hours to do and earn three graduate credits or 36 PDPs. They are offered in Jan, Mar, May, July and Sept.
