In 1986, the Stratford Foundation Inc. was formed with the goal of becoming a valuable educational resource for the community. After establishing the Commonwealth Learning Center in 1988 and the Professional Training Institute in 1992, Stratford came into the 21st century in 2010 when CLOI, the Commonwealth Learning Online Institute, was formed.
Since our early days we have increased our offerings and university partners to meet the needs of educators nationwide. Today our program includes both self-paced and facilitated courses, and our credit offering institutions have expanded to include Gordon College, Westfield State University, and MidAmerica Nazarene University.
After nearly a decade, our commitment to being a valuable professional development resource for the community is stronger than ever, and we work towards this everyday by providing exceptional learning for educators across the country.

Our courses can be utilized individually or in groups and no matter where you stand in your teaching journey, you will find that our online offerings widen your teaching skills and knowledge.
More About Online Commonwealth Learning Online Institute Courses
We currently offer online reading courses both in facilitated and self-paced formats. Online writing and special education courses are being created. Our courses help teachers of all levels from foundational up to the 12th grade. The learning techniques learnt in each online course should better prepare your students for college and life.
Your Choice: Self-Paced Vs. Facilitated Online Courses
Our self-paced internet courses can be accomplished in accordance with your schedule. There aren’t any set deadlines for completing the lessons; you can study them when it is right for you. A trained facilitator is always there to respond to any questions or concerns that arise. They’ll also provide you with a grade if you’re taking the training for credit. Self-paced internet courses will need anywhere between 8 and fifteen hrs to accomplish and students earn 1/2 to one PDP credit. They are open to study whenever you want. Our online facilitated courses, however, provide a little more structure. Think of them as in-depth training in a specific area over a 7 week period. A professional, masters-level facilitator takes the way and sets expectations and goals that participants must meet each week. Such facilitated courses will take anywhere between 50 and 70 hours to do and earn 3 graduate credits or 36 PDPs. They are offered in Jan, Mar, May, July and Sept.

Our current online reading instruction courses focus on Instructing Spelling and Phonetics, Integrating 5 Core Reading Skills, Close Reading and Vocabulary Building. They’re tailored so you can expose your students to fresh new ways of grasping the link between written words on a page and the sound of the words when spoken, and to become quicker readers. Our online classes supply a lot of educational ideas that you can use in your classroom lessons.
Earn Continuing Education Credits For Your Professional Development
Each facilitated course earns you 36 PDPs or 3 graduate credits that can be used for your professional development. Our self paced courses earn you a half or one credit. New courses worth two graduate credits are currently being developed. Credits are granted by MidAmerica Nazarene University, Westfield State University and Gordon College; you’ll get graduate credit from whatever college you select. PDPs are only offered from Westfield State University.
