CLOI’s Journey

In 1986, the Stratford Foundation Inc. was formed with the goal of becoming a valuable educational resource for the community. After establishing the Commonwealth Learning Center in 1988 and the Professional Training Institute in 1992, Stratford came into the 21st century in 2010 when CLOI, the Commonwealth Learning Online Institute, was formed.

Since our early days we have increased our offerings and university partners to meet the needs of educators nationwide. Today our program includes both self-paced and facilitated courses, and our credit offering institutions have expanded to include Gordon College, Westfield State University, and MidAmerica Nazarene University.

After nearly a decade, our commitment to being a valuable professional development resource for the community is stronger than ever, and we work towards this everyday by providing exceptional learning for educators across the country.

Our course development began when we partnered with a vetted educational enterprise. They helped us to develop 6 core reading facilitated courses.

We released our very first facilitated public course (6 in all) in 2012 after reaching a good deal with Gordon College to offer our teachers with graduate credits. Today we include MidAmerica Nazarene University and Westfield State University in our list of credit institutions.

A seasoned, facilitator leads the way and sets targets and expectations which participants should fulfill weekly. Our facilitated courses should take approximately fifty to seventy hours to accomplish and earn 36 PDPs or 3 graduate credits. They take place in January, March, May, July, and September.

What Course Topics Are Offered to Springfield Educators?

Our current online reading instruction courses focus on Vocabulary Building, Close Reading, Integrating 5 Key Reading Skills and Instructing Spelling and Phonetics. They are crafted so you can expose your students to new techniques for grasping the connection between the sound of the words when spoken with actual words on a page, and how to develop into quicker readers. All of our online courses provide many educational examples that you’re able to put to use in your school.

Due to our development partnerships with Westfield State University, MidAmerica Nazarene University and Gordon College, each CLOI study course will earn you PDPs or grad credits which you can use for your professional development.
