The History of Commonwealth Learning Online Institute Rutland City, VT

Commonwealth Learning Online Institute began in 2010 when we noticed that overstretched educators needed a more practical option for getting access to the courses that we at that time taught on-site. We’re part of the Stratford Foundation Inc. which was founded in 1986 to assist students of any age beat their learning difficulties, especially in reading. We partnered with an educational institution who helped us to form our core facilitated reading courses.

We launched our initial 6 facilitated public courses in 2012 after we negotiated a good deal with Gordon College to offer graduate credit for our clients. Presently we’re proud to also include the likes of Westfield State University and MidAmerica Nazarene University among our list of universities offering graduate credit.

All courses are readily available by using desktop computer, laptop, tablet, or any other mobile device. Rutland City, Vermont school superintendents, principals, administrators and curriculum directors have benefitted from our online offerings. These courses can be taken individually or in groups and no matter where you stand in your teacher professional development, you’ll find our online offerings enhance your teaching skills and knowledge.

More Information On Online Commonwealth Learning Online Institute Courses

Presently we deliver online courses in both self-paced and facilitated formats. Online courses for special education and writing are being developed. Our training helps teachers of all grades from foundational right up to 12th grade. The learning methods learned in each course should better ready your pupils for college and way beyond.

Your Choice: Facilitated Vs. Self Paced Online Courses

Self-paced courses can be progressed based on your timetable. There aren’t any dates for completing the lessons; you are able to do them when it’s right for you. A trained facilitator is available to respond to any queries or issues that crop up. They’ll also give you a grade should you be doing the program for credits. Self-paced online courses take between eight and 15 hrs to complete and students earn a half to one PDP credit. They are available to study all year round. Our online facilitated training courses, on the other hand, give a more organized solution. Consider them to be comprehensive workshop training in a particular subject area over a 7 week time period. A trained, masters-level facilitator directs the course and establishes expectations and targets which students should fulfill each week. Such online courses take anywhere between 50 and 70 hours to do and earn 36 PDPs or three graduate credits. They take place in January, March, May, July, and September.

Course Topics in Reading

Some of the subject areas our online courses target include how to teach Building Vocabulary, Close Reading, Integrating 5 Key Reading Skills and Instructing Spelling and Phonetics. They demonstrate engaging recommendations which you can bring into the classroom to make better readers of your students.

Earn Continuing Education Credits For Your Professional Development

Due to our partnerships with Gordon College, MidAmerica Nazarene University and Westfield State University, each CLOI training course earns you PDPs or grad credits that you can use for the advancement of your professional career. Each individual facilitated course earns you 3 graduate credits or 36 PDPs while self paced courses earn 1/2 or one credit. Courses earning two grad credits are being developed.

Teacher Testimonial

I enjoyed the discussions and different points of view. I thought there were some very good resources that I have already started using in my own teaching and will continue to reference in the coming year.
