CLOI’s Journey

In 1986, the Stratford Foundation Inc. was formed with the goal of becoming a valuable educational resource for the community. After establishing the Commonwealth Learning Center in 1988 and the Professional Training Institute in 1992, Stratford came into the 21st century in 2010 when CLOI, the Commonwealth Learning Online Institute, was formed.

Since our early days we have increased our offerings and university partners to meet the needs of educators nationwide. Today our program includes both self-paced and facilitated courses, and our credit offering institutions have expanded to include Gordon College, Westfield State University, and MidAmerica Nazarene University.

After nearly a decade, our commitment to being a valuable professional development resource for the community is stronger than ever, and we work towards this everyday by providing exceptional learning for educators across the country.

Your Decision: Self-Paced Vs. Facilitated Courses

Our facilitated courses give in-depth training in a particular topic over a seven week time frame. A professional, masters-level facilitator directs the course participants through it week by week, establishing objectives to meet as each lesson is finished. These training courses will take approximately 50 to 70 hours to do and earn you 36 PDPs or three graduate credits. Facilitated format courses are available five times each year: January, March, May, July, and September. The self-paced internet courses give you increased convenience as you accomplish them when you have the time. A facilitator is on hand to address the questions you have by Email and will also provide grading if you’re doing the training course for credits. The self-paced internet courses take anywhere between 8 and 15 hrs to do and earn participants 1/2 to one credit.
