CLOI’s Journey

In 1986, the Stratford Foundation Inc. was formed with the goal of becoming a valuable educational resource for the community. After establishing the Commonwealth Learning Center in 1988 and the Professional Training Institute in 1992, Stratford came into the 21st century in 2010 when CLOI, the Commonwealth Learning Online Institute, was formed.

Since our early days we have increased our offerings and university partners to meet the needs of educators nationwide. Today our program includes both self-paced and facilitated courses, and our credit offering institutions have expanded to include Gordon College, Westfield State University, and MidAmerica Nazarene University.

After nearly a decade, our commitment to being a valuable professional development resource for the community is stronger than ever, and we work towards this everyday by providing exceptional learning for educators across the country.

More Details On Online Commonwealth Learning Online Institute Courses

Currently we deliver reading courses in both self-taught and facilitated set-ups. Online special education and writing courses are being designed. Our unique training assists teachers of all grades from foundational right up to 12th grade. The strategies for learning presented in each online course will successfully prepare your students for college and beyond.

Self-Paced Vs. Facilitated Courses

The facilitated format courses provide in-depth workshop training in a given topic area over a 7 week time period. A specialist, facilitator takes the students through each week, setting expectations to satisfy at the completion of each lesson. These online courses take roughly 50 to 70 hours to complete and earn three graduate credits or 36 PDPs. The facilitated courses are available five times each year: January, March, May, July, and September. The self-paced training courses give increased convenience because you complete them at your own pace. A trained facilitator is available to resolve all your questions via e mail and also does marking if you’re doing the course for credit. Self-paced online courses should take between 8 and 15 hrs to do and earn participants a half to one credit.

What Online Course Topics Are Available to Pittsburgh, PA Educators?

PDP’s are only offered from Westfield State University.
