CLOI’s Journey

In 1986, the Stratford Foundation Inc. was formed with the goal of becoming a valuable educational resource for the community. After establishing the Commonwealth Learning Center in 1988 and the Professional Training Institute in 1992, Stratford came into the 21st century in 2010 when CLOI, the Commonwealth Learning Online Institute, was formed.

Since our early days we have increased our offerings and university partners to meet the needs of educators nationwide. Today our program includes both self-paced and facilitated courses, and our credit offering institutions have expanded to include Gordon College, Westfield State University, and MidAmerica Nazarene University.

After nearly a decade, our commitment to being a valuable professional development resource for the community is stronger than ever, and we work towards this everyday by providing exceptional learning for educators across the country.

The courses are available twenty-four hours a day and can be used indefinitely after you’ve finished the program. We give both self-paced and facilitated training in writing and reading techniques. The facilitated programs allow you to gain graduate credits or professional development points (PDPs) towards your educational training.

CLOI courses were formulated so that they observe a rational structure with training lessons which build upon one another. Additionally they help you learn about practical teaching examples that you are able to use in the classroom to help children and teenagers learn in more interesting ways. Our internet courses are also formulated to satisfy the Common Core State Standards Initiative.

Right now we deliver online courses in both self-taught and facilitated formats. Online courses for writing and special education are being developed. Self-Paced Vs. Facilitated Online Courses

Self-paced study courses can be done in line with your timetable. There’s no specified dates for doing each lesson; you are able to do them at your leisure. The self-paced courses require between 8 and 15 hrs to do and earn students a half to one PDP credit. They are available to take all year round. Our facilitated courses, however, provide more structure. Think of them as in-depth training in a specific area over a 7 week time frame. A professional, masters-level facilitator takes the way and sets expectations and goals which students need to meet each week. Our training courses should take roughly fifty to seventy hours to accomplish and will earn you 3 graduate credits or 36 PDPs. They take place in January, March, May, July, and September.
