The History of Commonwealth Learning Online Institute New Rochelle, New York

Commonwealth Learning Online Institute is a branch of the Stratford Foundation Inc. which was itself established in 1986 to help pupils of all ages conquer learning difficulties, and educators understand how to carry out their jobs more successfully. CLOI was in fact established in 2010 to provide useful professional development to educators. Our course development began when we combined with an educational organization already vetted in the industry. They helped us create 6 core facilitated reading courses.

Then we wanted universities who’d join with us to offer graduate credits that could be used by customers. The first one to join was Gordon College, and in 2012 our very first six courses went public. Nowadays our graduate credit universities have grown to include the likes of Westfield State University and MidAmerica Nazarene University.

Your Decision: Self-Paced Vs. Facilitated Courses

Self-paced courses may be completed in line with your agenda. There aren’t any deadlines for finishing each lesson; you can do them when you have the time. A professional facilitator is always on hand to resolve any questions or worries that may arise. They will also give you a grade mark should you be doing the course for graduate credit. Self-paced courses take between 8 and fifteen hrs to do and earn students a half to one PDP credit. They’re there to take any time of the year. Our facilitated courses, in contrast, offer a more organized solution. Consider them to be comprehensive workshop training in a particular subject area over a time frame of seven weeks. A specialist, facilitator directs the course and sets goals and expectations which participants have to satisfy each week. Such facilitated courses will take about 50 to70 hours to accomplish and will earn you 36 PDPs or three graduate credits. They occur in Jan, Mar, May, July and Sept.

Online Course Topics

Our current online reading instruction courses focus on Instructing Spelling and Phonetics, Vocabulary Building, Close Reading and Integrating Five Core Reading Skills. They’re constructed so you can introduce your students to new techniques for understanding the link between the sound of spoken words with words on a page, and also to develop into swifter readers. Our online solutions show plenty of teaching illustrations that you could apply to your classroom lessons.

Earn Continuing Education Credits For Your Professional Development

One of the goals of Commonwealth Learning Online Institute is to provide teachers with credits or points that they can use towards earning added qualifications. Each facilitated study course will earn you three graduate credits or 36 PDPs which can be used towards your professional development, while the self-paced courses earn a half or one graduate credit.
