CLOI’s Journey

In 1986, the Stratford Foundation Inc. was formed with the goal of becoming a valuable educational resource for the community. After establishing the Commonwealth Learning Center in 1988 and the Professional Training Institute in 1992, Stratford came into the 21st century in 2010 when CLOI, the Commonwealth Learning Online Institute, was formed.

Since our early days we have increased our offerings and university partners to meet the needs of educators nationwide. Today our program includes both self-paced and facilitated courses, and our credit offering institutions have expanded to include Gordon College, Westfield State University, and MidAmerica Nazarene University.

After nearly a decade, our commitment to being a valuable professional development resource for the community is stronger than ever, and we work towards this everyday by providing exceptional learning for educators across the country.

More Information On Online CLOI Courses

We presently offer online courses both in facilitated and self-taught formats. Online writing and special education courses are being created. Our courses help teachers of all grade levels from foundational level right up to the 12th grade. The learning methods learned in each of the courses will better ready your students for college and way beyond.

Your Choice: Facilitated Vs. Self Paced Online Courses

Our self-paced training courses can be progressed based on your agenda. There aren’t any dates for doing each lesson; you can study them when you have the time. A facilitator is on hand to respond to any questions or concerns that may come up. They will also provide you with a grade if you’re taking the training for credit. The self-paced training courses take anywhere between eight and fifteen hours to accomplish and earn participants a half to one credit. They are available to take whenever you want. Our facilitated courses, on the other hand, offer a little more structure. Consider them to be extensive training in a chosen topic area over a time frame of seven weeks. A specialist, masters-level facilitator directs the way and sets goals and expectations that participants must satisfy weekly. Earn Continuing Education Credits For Your Professional Development

One of the aims of CLOI is to offer teachers with points or graduate credits that they can put towards getting added qualifications. Each facilitated format course will earn you three graduate credits or 36 PDPs which you can use for future professional development, whilst the self-paced courses earn a half or one credit. Courses which will be worth two graduate credits are currently in the pipeline. Grad credit is given by Gordon College, MidAmerica Nazarene University and Westfield State University; you receive graduate credit from whichever college you choose. PDPs are offered through Westfield State University.
