CLOI’s Journey

In 1986, the Stratford Foundation Inc. was formed with the goal of becoming a valuable educational resource for the community. After establishing the Commonwealth Learning Center in 1988 and the Professional Training Institute in 1992, Stratford came into the 21st century in 2010 when CLOI, the Commonwealth Learning Online Institute, was formed.

Since our early days we have increased our offerings and university partners to meet the needs of educators nationwide. Today our program includes both self-paced and facilitated courses, and our credit offering institutions have expanded to include Gordon College, Westfield State University, and MidAmerica Nazarene University.

After nearly a decade, our commitment to being a valuable professional development resource for the community is stronger than ever, and we work towards this everyday by providing exceptional learning for educators across the country.

More About Commonwealth Learning Online Institute Courses for Madison, Wisconsin Teachers

We presently offer online reading courses in facilitated and self-paced set-ups. Online writing and special education courses are being designed. The unique training assists tutors of all grades from foundational level right up to the 12th grade. The techniques for learning learned in each of the courses will prepare your students for college and beyond.

Your Decision: Self-Paced Vs. Facilitated Online Courses

We offer 2 course options depending on just how much structure and instruction you need. Self-paced training courses offer a lot more freedom because you progress through them when you have the time. You aren’t required to finish one lesson before a specific date before progressing to the next. However, a trained facilitator is available to email with any concerns or questions. Self-paced courses are also shorter, usually needing somewhere between 8 and 15 hrs to finish. The facilitated courses provide more comprehensive training and should take seven weeks to do. Contrary to the self-paced option, you are expected to finish each lesson by a specified date before carrying on. A trained, instructor takes you through the course and sets goals which participants need to reach before continuing. Such online courses take between 50 and 70 hours to accomplish. The facilitated courses occur five times per year between Jan and Sept.

Due to our partnerships with Gordon College, MidAmerica Nazarene University and Westfield State University, each CLOI study course will earn you grad credits or PDPs which you can use for the advancement of your professional career. Every facilitated study course earns you 36 PDPs or three graduate credits while our self paced courses earn a half or one credit. Courses earning two grad credits are forthcoming.
