In 1986, the Stratford Foundation Inc. was formed with the goal of becoming a valuable educational resource for the community. After establishing the Commonwealth Learning Center in 1988 and the Professional Training Institute in 1992, Stratford came into the 21st century in 2010 when CLOI, the Commonwealth Learning Online Institute, was formed.
Since our early days we have increased our offerings and university partners to meet the needs of educators nationwide. Today our program includes both self-paced and facilitated courses, and our credit offering institutions have expanded to include Gordon College, Westfield State University, and MidAmerica Nazarene University.
After nearly a decade, our commitment to being a valuable professional development resource for the community is stronger than ever, and we work towards this everyday by providing exceptional learning for educators across the country.

Self-Paced Vs. Facilitated Online Courses
We offer two options for online courses depending on the level of structure and instruction you need. Our self-paced courses deliver much more flexibility because you do them when you have the time. You are not required to complete one lesson before a certain date before moving on. However, a trained facilitator is available to E-Mail with your concerns or questions. These training courses don’t take so long, typically needing somewhere between 8 and fifteen hrs to finish. The facilitated study courses convey more comprehensive instruction and should take 7 weeks to finish. In contrast to the self-paced courses, you are expected to finish a lesson by a specified date before carrying on. A seasoned, facilitator/instructor takes the class through each week and sets targets which students must reach before progressing to the next lesson. Such online courses will take roughly 50 to 70 hours to accomplish. The facilitated courses are available five times per year from January to September.
