CLOI’s Journey

In 1986, the Stratford Foundation Inc. was formed with the goal of becoming a valuable educational resource for the community. After establishing the Commonwealth Learning Center in 1988 and the Professional Training Institute in 1992, Stratford came into the 21st century in 2010 when CLOI, the Commonwealth Learning Online Institute, was formed.

Since our early days we have increased our offerings and university partners to meet the needs of educators nationwide. Today our program includes both self-paced and facilitated courses, and our credit offering institutions have expanded to include Gordon College, Westfield State University, and MidAmerica Nazarene University.

After nearly a decade, our commitment to being a valuable professional development resource for the community is stronger than ever, and we work towards this everyday by providing exceptional learning for educators across the country.

Our ongoing online course selection is focused on the development of reading skills; special education and writing courses are being designed. These courses are designed to help educators of all grades from foundational level up through the 12th grade. They are intended to help prepare your students for college and further education.

Your Choice: Self-Paced Vs. Facilitated Courses

Self-paced study courses can be completed based on your schedule. There’s no due dates for completing each lesson; you can study them when it is right for you. A professional facilitator is on hand to respond to any queries or problems that crop up. They’ll also provide you with a grade should you be doing the training for graduate credits. Our self-paced internet courses require between 8 and fifteen hrs to accomplish and participants earn a half to one PDP credit. They are there to take any time of the year. The facilitated courses, however, offer a more organized solution. Consider them to be comprehensive training in a particular area over a period of 7 weeks. A seasoned, masters-level facilitator takes the way and establishes objectives and expectations that participants need to meet each week. These training courses take somewhere around fifty to seventy hours to accomplish and will earn you 36 PDPs or three graduate credits. They’re offered in January, March, May, July, and September.
