CLOI’s Journey

In 1986, the Stratford Foundation Inc. was formed with the goal of becoming a valuable educational resource for the community. After establishing the Commonwealth Learning Center in 1988 and the Professional Training Institute in 1992, Stratford came into the 21st century in 2010 when CLOI, the Commonwealth Learning Online Institute, was formed.

Since our early days we have increased our offerings and university partners to meet the needs of educators nationwide. Today our program includes both self-paced and facilitated courses, and our credit offering institutions have expanded to include Gordon College, Westfield State University, and MidAmerica Nazarene University.

After nearly a decade, our commitment to being a valuable professional development resource for the community is stronger than ever, and we work towards this everyday by providing exceptional learning for educators across the country.

The Differences Between Self-Paced Vs. Facilitated Online Courses for Teachers in Cumming, Georgia

Our facilitated format courses give in-depth training in a specific topic area over a seven week time frame. A trained, facilitator leads the students through each week in turn, establishing goals to reach on the completion of each lesson. Such online courses should take anywhere between 50 and 70 hours to accomplish and earn 3 graduate credits or 36 PDPs. The facilitated courses are offered 5 times per year: January, March, May, July, and September. The self-paced online courses offer you increased convenience because you complete them whenever you have the time. A facilitator is always there to answer the questions you have via e-mail and also does grading in case you are taking the training course for credits. Self-paced web based courses typically take between 8 and 15 hours to do and earn participants a half to one credit.

Courses that are worth two graduate credits are in the pipeline. Graduate credit is provided by Westfield State University, MidAmerica Nazarene University and Gordon College; you’ll get graduate credit from the college of your choice. Westfield State University offers the PDPs.
