The History of CLOI Colchester, Vermont
CLOI is a branch of the Stratford Foundation Inc. which was established in 1986 to help pupils of every age group prevail over learning problems, and educators understand how to perform their jobs more efficiently. Commonwealth Learning Online Institute was established in 2010 to supply practical professional development to educators and tutors. The development of our courses started when we combined with a vetted educational enterprise. They helped us to formulate our first six core facilitated reading courses.
Our next aim was to partner with a few universities to be able to offer graduate credits to our students. The initial six courses were offered in 2012. Currently, the credit universities include Westfield State University, Gordon College and MidAmerica Nazarene University.
Our online courses are readily available via a desktop, laptop, tablet, or any sort of mobile device. They are ideal for Colchester, Vermont school superintendents, administrators, principals and curriculum directors and may be studied individually or in groups dependant on the requirements of your school or district. It doesn’t matter where you stand in your development, these internet courses expand your knowledge and teaching techniques.
More About Online Commonwealth Learning Online Institute Courses
Currently we provide reading courses in both self-paced and facilitated set-ups. Online special education and writing courses are being created. Our training aids tutors of all grade levels from foundational level right up to the 12th grade. The strategies for learning studied in each course should successfully prepare your pupils for college and life.
Self-Paced Vs. Facilitated Courses
CLOI offers two options for online courses dependant on the level of structure and instruction you’re seeking. Self-paced training courses provide more convenience because you progress in your spare time. You’re not required to finish one lesson before a certain date before moving onto the next. However, an experienced facilitator is on hand to email with any queries or concerns. Such courses don’t take so long, commonly requiring anywhere between 8 and fifteen hrs of study to accomplish. The facilitated courses convey more detailed training and will take seven weeks to do. Compared with the self-paced courses, you’re required to complete a lesson by a particular date before progressing. A seasoned, facilitator/instructor directs the class through each week and sets goals that students have to reach before progressing to the next lesson. These comprehensive courses should take anywhere between 50 and 70 hours to do. The facilitated courses occur five times yearly between Jan and Sept.
Course Topics in Reading
Some of the topics the reading courses target include the likes of Instructing Phonics and Spelling, Integrating 5 Core Reading Skills, Vocabulary Building and Close Reading. They illustrate interesting techniques which you can use in the school to make stronger readers of your students.
Earn Credits or Colchester, Vermont Professional Development Points
One of the main goals of CLOI is to offer teachers with grad credits or points which they can put towards gaining extra accreditation. Every facilitated study course earns you 36 PDPs or three graduate credits that can be used for future teaching development, while our self-paced study courses earn 1/2 or one credit. Further courses worth 2 graduate credits are being developed.
