CLOI’s Journey

In 1986, the Stratford Foundation Inc. was formed with the goal of becoming a valuable educational resource for the community. After establishing the Commonwealth Learning Center in 1988 and the Professional Training Institute in 1992, Stratford came into the 21st century in 2010 when CLOI, the Commonwealth Learning Online Institute, was formed.

Since our early days we have increased our offerings and university partners to meet the needs of educators nationwide. Today our program includes both self-paced and facilitated courses, and our credit offering institutions have expanded to include Gordon College, Westfield State University, and MidAmerica Nazarene University.

After nearly a decade, our commitment to being a valuable professional development resource for the community is stronger than ever, and we work towards this everyday by providing exceptional learning for educators across the country.

Presently we offer you online reading courses in facilitated and self-paced set-ups. Online courses for writing and special education are being created. Your Choice: Self-Paced Vs. Facilitated Online Courses

Our facilitated format courses provide in-depth training in a particular area over a 7 week time frame. A professional, facilitator takes the students through each week in turn, setting objectives to fulfill as each lesson is accomplished. Our courses should take somewhere around fifty to seventy hours to accomplish and earn you 36 PDPs or 3 graduate credits. Facilitated format courses take place five times per year: Jan, Mar, May, July and Sept. Self-paced courses provide you with far more convenience because you finish them as time allows. A professional facilitator is always on hand to resolve your questions via e mail and will also provide marking should you be taking the study course for graduate credit. Our self-paced web based courses should take somewhere between eight and 15 hours to finish and participants earn a half to one credit.
